STOP AIDS Project

Gyms

IN THE GYM: STOP AIDS PROJECT SPOTS YOU.
barbells

Taking care of our bodies is the reason why we go to the gym. But it shouldn’t stop once we leave the locker rooms. In San Francisco, the gym is a social space for gay, bi, and trans men to find workout partners, socialize, and meet one another for friendships, hookups, and relationships.

We’re going in the locker rooms where the men meet and want you with us. We offer a variety of programs, workshops, and resources for gym-goers like you in many different gyms across the city.

Get Involved!

We also are building teams of volunteers and community advisory board members for our work in the gyms and we need your ideas, energy, and feedback to make it happen.

HIV/STD Testing. Gold's Gym

Every month the STOP AIDS Project and the SF Department of Public Health provides free and confidential STD screenings at Gold’s Gym, testing for syphilis and oral and rectal chlamydia and gonorrhea.

HIV testing is sometimes offered as well. The process is quick, easy, and very accessible—you can get it done before, after, or during your workout! Locations:

Gold’s Gym Castro
2301 Market Street at Noe

Check back soon for upcoming dates.

Workshops.
Every few months we offer workshops that include information about how you can take better care of your health– fitness tips, nutritional information, and sexual health resources. Past events have included “Gym 101” where we presented advice for newcomers to the gym and “Positive Beef,” a roundtable where we discussed nutrition, workout regimens, supplements, and body weight issues for HIV-positive men.

Some of the events we’ve put on in the past :

“Looking Good, Feeling Good”
Ever notice how we hit the gym more before a hot date, a hot hookup, or street fair? Or how we interact with each other at the gym? Join us for an engaging community discussion on the ins and outs of why we go to the gym and how we use it to get bigger and to meet people. We’ll talk about proper cruising techniques, how we get hot and bothered at the gym and more. Also enter in a raffle to win free gym swag!

New to the gym? Experienced muscle queen? Need tips on working out, nutrition, or sexual health? Get tips on working out with Gold’s trainer David Ames; get answers to your questions from nutritionists, trainers, and other experts about gym wellness and physical and sexual health; talk about hooking up and connecting at the gym (the good, the bad, and the naughty); and get your Body Mass Index done for free!

“Positive Beef”
HIV Positive? Working Out? Ever think about how your status affects nutrition, supplements and steroids, workout routines, and body image? Drop by for information, food, refreshments, and a raffle!
