Positive
Force is the STOP AIDS Project's HIV prevention program designed by
and for HIV+ gay and bisexual men in San Francisco.
Originally funded in 1999 by the Centers for Disease Control and the
City of San Francisco, Positive Force began as part of a larger citywide
collaborative centered around the HIV Stops With Me media campaign.
Since it began, more than 8,000 gay men have attended Positive Force
events. Positive Force works with HIV+ gay and bisexual men of all
ages, ethnicities and economic backgrounds to help reduce the stigma
of living with HIV and bring HIV+ guys into prevention activities
through social support and educational events.

Positive Force provides small social events, discussion groups, book clubs, large
social events and community forums. All Positive Force events are designed and
implemented by a group of HIV+ volunteers who are known as the Positive Force
Advisory Group (PFAG) who recognize that when HIV+ gay and bisexual men feel
more supported by their peers they are more inclined to disclose their HIV status
to their partners.
The Positive Force program is dedicated
to the program's Co-founder Robert Hays, Ph.D. who realized that even
with the advent of HAART (Highly Active Anti-retroviral Treatment aka "The
Cocktail"), HIV+ gay and bisexual men still needed to feel that
they were a part of a community with their HIV+ brothers.
