STOP AIDS Project

Condom Types We Offer

condomSTOP AIDS Project has partnered with a number of businesses and organizations throughout the city in an effort to make condoms free and accessible.

See our complete listing of these distribution sites.

Free condoms, pocket-sized packets of lubricant, instructions for how to use them, and many other resources related to sexual health are available at STOP AIDS Project's Outreach Center located in the Castro neighborhood at 207 Sanchez Street, just south of Market Street. Condoms are manufactured in many different shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. The condoms described below are the brands and types we typically stock at our Outreach Center, although some varieties may not always be available. We provide condoms made of latex and two kinds made of polyurethane plastic, both of which can be effective in the prevention of HIV transmission if properly use.

Seven Choices - Which One Is Right For You?

Latex Condoms
crown condom
Crown "Skin Less Skin"
These condoms are most famous for their use in the adult movie industry, and receive excellent ratings in terms of sensitivity, reliability and strength. They are slightly above average in size. Crown condoms are pink-tinted and lightly lubricated.
beyond seven condom
Beyond Seven
Beyond Seven condoms are made of a latex called Sheerlon that is thinner than other latex condoms without compromising its strength and durability. They are somewhat narrower, especially around the head of the penis. Despite the name, these lubricated condoms are for men with average-sized penises.
pleasure plus condom
Pleasure Plus
Unlike other traditional condoms, Pleasure Plus has a large loose pouch of extra latex positioned near the head and on the underside of the condom, which rubs back and forth during sex. This section of latex provides movement and friction with the underside of the penis, enhancing stimulation of the region most men experience to be the most sensitive. This design is also popular in providing extra room for those with piercings.
lifestyles condom

Lifestyles Snugger Fit
This contoured condom is ideal for a slimmer penis. The narrower width of the shaft makes it ideal for guys who have had a problem with condoms sliding off, or for those who prefer a tighter fitting condom. They are lubricated and slightly larger around the head of the penis.

night light condom
Night Light
These condoms glow in the dark after being exposed to light for at least 30 seconds. They should be kept in their package until ready for use, however, to prevent drying out, which can result in breakage. In addition, prolonged exposure to sunlight can deteriorate latex and cause it to break more easily. Night Light condoms should not be confused with other glow-in-the-dark condoms, most of which are for novelty purposes only and are not effective for preventing the transmission of HIV.

Polyurethane Condoms
reality female condom

Reality Condom
Don't let the pink venus symbol fool you! Even though this condom is branded as the "Female Condom," it has been demonstrated to be an effective barrier in helping to prevent the transmission of HIV during anal sex. The Reality Condom is an 'internal' condom, shaped like a pouch that is inserted into the rectum before anal sex. It can be inserted up to four hours before sex, and in some ways gives more control to the receptive partner in choosing to practice safer sex. These condoms definitely take some practice before being able to fully enjoy their use. Like the Avanti condom, Reality is made of polyurethane plastic rather than latex. This means they are thinner, typically stronger, have no rubbery odor, conduct heat more easily, can be used with both water- and oil-based lubricants, and are especially ideal for those with latex allergies or sensitivities. Be sure to read our male-specific instructions for insertion and use of Reality for anal sex.

Avanti
Avanti
These polyurethane condoms are shaped and worn much like traditional latex condoms. They are lubricated, transparent in color, odorless, and have a reservoir tip. They differ from latex condoms in that they are thinner and can be used with oil-based lubricants. Like the Reality condom, Avanti is an additional option for those with allergies or sensitivity to latex.
