STOP AIDS & HIV Vaccines
The STOP AIDS Project wants the spread of HIV to end. One way to accomplish
this goal is the discovery of a vaccine to protect us against HIV
infection.
We are an active partner of the HIV
Research Section,
part of the San Francisco Department of
Public Health. We provide them
with feedback on recruitment strategies. They continually update our
staff on their latest news.
What an HIV Vaccine could
do
A successful vaccine could either:
(1) protect you from becoming infected with HIV or
(2) keep you from getting sick if you did become infected. |
 |
You cannot get HIV from the vaccine. There is no HIV
in it.
Vaccines have ended epidemics
In 1952,
over 57,000 Americans became infected with the Polio virus. A few
years later, a vaccine was introduced and the number of new infections
quickly plummeted. Since 1979, no Americans have gotten Polio.
Think about what an HIV vaccine could do. This year alone, 40,000
more Americans and 14 million people worldwide will become infected
with HIV.
You can get involved
To find a vaccine to prevent HIV, thousands of volunteers will be needed
to participate in these trials.
If you are HIV negative and interested in finding out more about vaccines,
volunteering or helping out in other ways, go to SFisReady.org or call
