Get out and help out at your favorite nightspots! Whether it’s late at night at your favorite bar or during the day at the local gym, STOP AIDS is there. We’re talking with men about reducing their risk for HIV, filling out our famous sex surveys and you can join us! Exciting opportunities are available in each of our six sexual networks (Bars and Clubs, Gyms, Leather, Internet, African American Community, and Commercial and Public Sex Environments).
Training Required:
We’ll fill you in on everything you need to know at the Peer Health Activist Training and Outreach Training.
Time Commitment:
Shifts are 2-3 hours once a week or every other week. Your schedule can be arranged with the Intervention Coordinator.
Where:
Various bars and other venues throughout San Francisco
What you get:
This position gives volunteers the opportunity to meet new people, develop their skills on approaching strangers and gives practical experience to those interested in public health. Additionally, all STOP AIDS volunteers are invited to special volunteer events throughout the year.
How this Position Helps:
The individual discussions that take place during outreach help men to evaluate their risk for HIV/ STD’s and give them the opportunity to ask questions. Additionally, the surveys conducted during these conversations represent the largest collection of data on gay men’s sexual behavior in the world and help inform prevention strategies for multiple agencies in San Francisco and across the state.
